    Catholic Schools Week 2020: Celebrate with us!

    Dear SPS School Families, Alumni, and Benefactors,

    St. Peter School is excited once again for the advent of Catholic Schools Week! The theme this year is: Learn. Serve. Lead. Succeed. This annual celebration will begin Sunday, January 26th and last through Friday, January 31th. We have many wonderful activities planned for our students and are also very excited to kick off open enrollment for new and returning families who have not yet re-registered. Here is a summary of our activities for the week. Where appropriate, we welcome any member of the wider parish community to join in our festivities!

    Sunday, January 26, 2020 

    • Kick-off of CSW 2020; Breakfast to follow the 9 AM Mass; this Mass, as usual, will feature our school choir. Students should come to Mass dressed in their uniform. Click here to RSVP to the breakfast!
    • Open House: 10:30-12:00. All parishioners, prospective parents and students, and current school families are welcome to come over to the school, take a school tour, and discuss all the great things about SPS with our staff, administration, and students

    Monday, January 27th

    • Student Appreciation Day– students may dress down according to casual dress guidelines
    • PTA Sponsored Event: Biking Expo

    Tuesday, January 28th: Champions of Catholic Eduction- St. Katharine Drexel

    • Grades 6-8 will make a short pilgrimage to the Basilica of Sts. Peter and Paul (Philadelphia) and the Tomb of St. Katharine Drexel (9 AM – 1:45 PM)
    • Students in grades 1-5 will watch a video on St. Katharine Drexel and engage in fun recreational games/activities in the afternoon.
    • Miss Atkinson will also coordinate her annual jump rope-a-thon during gym class

    Wednesday, January 29th: Day of Service

    • Volunteer Appreciation Tea– volunteers will be invited to the school for tea and breakfast items, in thanksgiving for their service to the school. Please click here to RSVP to the Volunteer Tea.
    • Grades Pre-K-3 will host Baby Showers for the women of Good Counsel Homes. Families in these grade levels are asked to bring in various unpacked items (see below) for the women who are supported by this great organization. You can learn more about Good Counsel Homes by clicking here.
    • Items to donate by grade level:
      • Grade K– Diapers, size 4; baby foods: apple sauce, sweet potatoes, green vegetables and carrots seem to be favored! 
      • Grade 1– Baby grooming items such as hair brushes and nail clippers; nasal aspirators, baby medicine droppers and/or spoons are also desired; diapers size 5
      • Grade 2– pacifiers/clips that connect to baby’s shirt; wrist and small hand held rattles; 3 packs of 4 ounce bottles; diapers size 6
      • Grade 3assist in the loading of Baby Shower items into cars for transport to Good Counsel Homes
    • Pre-K will assist K-3 as they are able with the baby showers by providing crafts! They will also create “blessing bags” for our seniors.
    • Grade 3 will write Valentine’s Day letters for our veterans
    • Grades 4-8 will create place mats and organize bag lunches and care packages for the Cathedral Kitchen (Camden).
    • Miss Atkinson will also coordinate her annual jump rope-a-thon during gym class

    Thursday, January  30th: Day of Prayer and Vocations

    • Throughout the day, there will be frequent moments of silence and prayer using prayers composed by each homeroom for the specific intention of an increase in vocations to the priesthood and religious life
    • Priestly vocations talk for boys grades 4+ in Pastor’s Hall at 9 AM; vocations talk for girls at 10 AM (speakers TBD)
    • TBD Retreat for girls and boys grades 6+; theme: The Universal Call to Holiness
    • 1:30 PM: Rosary and Benediction (per schedule of priests, grades K-8); our  specific intention will be for an increase in holiness and an increase in vocations to the priesthood and religious life
    • Family Night: 6-7:30 PM: 

    Friday, January 31st: Teacher Appreciation Day

    • Academic Race, students may wear gym uniform (note: no weekly school Mass this day)
    • PTA sponsored breakfast for teachers
    • TBD: Divine Office, Friday Afternoon, grades 4+, at 1:30 PM
    • Please Note: this is a full day of school
