ST. PETER SCHOOL

Students Corner

Johns Hopkins

Every year grades three through eight take a standardized test called IOWA. If children in grades five through eight receive the qualifying grade of ninety-five or above they are accepted into the Johns Hopkins program. The Johns Hopkins program allows students who qualify to take either an SAT or an ACT. This gives students an opportunity to experience the amount of concentration and hard work that it takes to accomplish one of these tests. And it’s not at all easy. These are high school level tests. Students who are nominated to take these tests receive a great honor. If the students take this test and they do well enough they can move on to a state level, then a national level if they do better still. SAT’s and ACT’s are the test you take in high school to determine whether or not you can be accepted into certain colleges.  We would like to congratulate all our Johns Hopkins qualifiers.

SPS Skating Parties

This year the SPS skating parties were awesome. If you didn’t go, you missed a fantastic event. The last skating party of the year was held on February 10th and everyone had a great time. I am very sorry if you missed this fun-filled experience. Next year there will be more skating parties so don’t worry. You are sure to get another chance to go. The skating parties are for people of all ages, including grades K to 8th.

At the skating parties there are many awesome games to play and also there is a ton of dancing. In the middle of the rink all the skaters get in a circle and dance to the hokey pokey in their skates! It is so funny to watch. We also play games like “Spin the Pin” and “The Dice Game. So be sure to come to all the awesome skating parties next year!

REMEMBER OUR VETERANS (POEM)

They did their duty and did what was right

To make our country free.

Remember all those people who died,

For the sake of you and me.

Those brave people fought, the unthinkable wars,

The memories still remain.

They risked their lives, with love in their hearts,

We remember them with pain.

There are Vets today of the present and past,

Who need a kind “Thank you.”

They loved their country so very much,

That they would die to save it too.

Even though Veterans Day,

Comes and Passes by,

The remembrance of our heroic soldiers,

Will never, ever die.

The wars that those people fought,

May seem unimportant to some.

But remember that there’s one thing we know:

They did it for our freedom

They deserve some honors,

Because they remained true

To those three precious colors,

Of red, white, and blue.

ICE CREAM SUNDAE NIGHT

On October 20th, we had Ice cream Sundae Night in our lower church for all new families of our school to meet new friends and have fun! Some of Sr. Veronica’s students sang a song for everyone on stage. The Student Council even prepared a skit to welcome and thank everyone for coming to join us with our  school community. Some students in the seventh and eighth grades helped younger students play games and serve them ice cream. Ice cream Sundae night ran very smoothly thanks to all our volunteers who helped made it such an enjoyable night!
