The students will join members of the NJ Audubon society to band shore birds and then have some hand-on collecting data about horseshoe crabs on Fortescue Beach. Journals will be used by the students to record their data, observations and sketches. Each student will be required to use the collected data for a report entitled Horseshoe Crab Study. The project will include a description of a horseshoe crab, a sketch of one, goal of the study, methods used to collect data, the data collected (including bar graphs with the assistance of Mrs. Leonard in computer class) and what they learned from the data. -	We are ~~working~~ on ~~a combination religion/writing/computer assignment with~~ the ~~assistance~~ and ~~guidance of Mrs. Leonard~~. ~~Students were asked~~ to ~~write~~ a ~~personal prayer~~ entitled ~~“Prayer before the Crucifix (or Cross)”~~. The ~~prayer was then taken to computer class to be typed and formatted. A wooden crucifix~~ project ~~composed~~ of ~~wooden clothespins was also completed by the students. Upon completion and printing~~ of the ~~prayers~~, ~~they will be laminated and then displayed~~ with the ~~wooden crucifixes~~. ~~This was truly a cross-curricular assignment.~~	+	We are busy preparing for our science trip on May 22. Fourth graders will need a vacation, for sure!

	On August 27, 1962 principal and superior Sr. Ernestine Arcaneli arrived with eight sisters to begin the new school year. The sisters greeted the students on opening day, September 5, 1962 and immediately began acquainting the children with the life of St. Lucy Filippini and their work. For over 50 years under the leadership of various principals, these Religious Teachers Filippini have considered their ministry to “Go and Teach the Word of God” their primary duty at St. Peter School. Under their guidance, students at St. Peter School benefited from the Religious Teachers Filippini focus on a Christ- centered environment. 		+	Father Sinatra believes that our school has been influential to his faith formation and ultimate decision to become a priest. “The values and faith that I learned at St. Peter School I bring forward with me. The Filippini Sisters and the priests that I interacted with as a student inspired and encouraged me to be a priest. No matter what parish I go to, I still consider the parish and school of St. Peter in Merchantville to be my true home.”

		+	Father Sinatra remembers his time at St. Peter School fondly, even though he made, in his estimation, “many a teacher earn their pay.” He recalls Sr. Mary DeAngelis approaching him at an event after he was ordained stating, “If I had known you were going to be a priest I would have treated you differently.” To which Father replied, “If you had treated me differently, I probably would not have been a priest.”
		+	Father Sinatra has been ordained a priest of the Diocese of Camden for close to seven years. He is currently an auditor for the Tribunal of the Diocese of Camden and will be completing his license in Canon Law from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome in June of 2012.

	Practices begin in March and the meets begin in early April and occur over six consecutive Saturdays from 9am-12pm. We compete in the 50m, 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1600m, 4 x 100m relays, long jump and shot-put. All registered athletes who attend practices have the opportunity to participate in every regular season meet. Each year we plan to enter a Senior Boy and Senior Girl relay team into the qualifying meet for the Penn Relays. In addition, our Senior girls and boys relay teams qualified for the prestigious Penn Relays and competed at Franklin Field on April 27, 2012. -	Race Day was beautiful – the sun was shining and a breeze was blowing as we headed across the street to the Merchantville walking path. Then we began to run and walk for the allotted time. We all did a great job, especially our Race for Education lap winners – Nolan Doms and Sophia Cross! We'd like to thank all our sponsors for their generosity. Thanks also to all the creative sneaker decorators out there who returned them with their contributions. The fourth graders created team logo plates and attached the sneakers to them. They’re on display in our hallway for awhile and then the students will be bringing them home.
